During individual one-on-one consultations, concerns regarding the pubic area, or what is medically called the mons pubis, can be addressed in cosmetic surgery. The mons pubis area is slightly reduced as a standard part of the tummy tuck procedure. For patients who have enlargement of this area out of proportion or normal expectations, additional maneuvers during an extended tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck operation can be undertaken to reduce excess skin and excess fat in a single surgical procedure. This can include additional common plastic surgery procedures like targeted liposuction, restructuring of abdominal muscles, and/or direct removal of extra or redundant tissue.

The Healing Process

Tummy tuck scar tissue will be hidden within the pubic region, right above the pubic hair line. This placement allows the scar to remain discreet, even when wearing underwear or swimsuits. The incision site, which may extend from hip to hip in cases of an extended tummy tuck, is designed to be easily concealed. As the body heals, patients may experience swelling, a pulling sensation, or discomfort in the abdominal area and pubic region. Surgical dressings, drainage tubes, and small tubes placed near the incision help manage fluid buildup and reduce the risk of infection.

Maintaining a stable weight, avoiding heavy objects, and following the surgery team’s instructions are essential to support proper healing and minimize complications like poor wound healing, increased risk of blood clots, or scar thickening. Most people find that the scar fades over time and becomes less noticeable, especially when shaving or waxing the pubic hair. While the incision lies close to the genital area and reproductive system, tummy tuck surgery does not impact sexual attraction or reproductive function. With proper care and realistic expectations, patients can enjoy long-lasting improvements in the contour of their abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
