Microneedling

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy or Collagen P.I.N.™, is an innovative technique that introduces a tiny, controlled wound into the skin in order to stimulate the growth of new skin and tissue. As part of the body’s natural healing process, skin responds to perceived wounds by releasing growth factors and producing new collagen and elastin. As a result, the refreshed skin is younger, thicker, and softer than before.

Microneedling can be used on nearly all parts of the body, including:

  • Face and neck
  • Décolletage
  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Abdomen

By stimulating cellular regeneration, microneedling can help tighten and lift your skin. This can reduce common skin issues such as fine lines, crow’s feet, acne scars, poor skin texture, sun damage, stretch marks, and body scars. And since you’re relying on your body’s natural processes, you’ll experience quick healing and long-lasting results.

In addition, by creating minuscule channels in your skin, microneedling helps topical serums and creams penetrate your skin’s layers more deeply. This increases the effectiveness of your skin care regimen and other treatments.

How Is Microneedling Performed?

During your consultation, your doctor will listen to your treatment goals and desires in order to determine the appropriate treatment depth. When it’s time for the procedure, a topical serum will be applied to the region of the skin to be treated, and a sterile needle-tip with 12 micro-needles will be attached to the Collagen P.I.N. device. In one smooth, gentle motion, the device will be guided gently over your skin in one direction. When the entire treatment area has been covered, you’ll have thousands of microscopic channels stimulating countless skin cells to refresh and renew your skin tone and texture.

Microneedling With Topical Platelet-Rich Plasma

Thanks to the incredible advancements in beauty science, micro-needling with topical platelet-rich plasma performs at the cellular level. Here at Heartland Plastic Surgery, we believe that the treatment is one of the finer non-invasive procedures for tightening the facial contours, creating a smoother texture, and delivering a more youthful appearance. The combination of microneedling and topical platelet-rich plasma can boost the production of collagen and elastin for the ultimate skin rejuvenation. The microneedling device with its fine array of needles creates tiny punctures in the skin. The wounds from the ideal passageway for the injection of platelet-rich plasma to absorb deep into the tissues. The double treatment accelerates the body’s natural healing process for more supple skin.

To obtain the platelet-rich plasma, a small sample of blood is drawn from the client’s arm and then, placed into a centrifuge to separate the plasma. This platelet-rich plasma is then used in the skin for a refreshed look. Micro-needling with topical platelet-rich plasma is most often used for facial rejuvenation, but the aesthetic treatment can also be performed on the body, including the neck, arms, belly, back, legs, and hands.

Fans of the double treatment rave about the platelet-rich plasma added as results for the face alone are impressive. Some of these skincare benefits feature the following:

  • A balanced skin tone
  • A glowing complexion
  • Firm skin and smooth texture
  • The appearance of smaller pores
  • Improvement in acne scars/sunspots
  • A softening of fine lines/wrinkles
  • An improvement in broken capillaries (spider veins)

Here at Heartland Plastic Surgery, we believe in incredible cutting-edge procedures that have been designed to repair, protect, and maintain the skin on the face and body. Microneedling with topical platelet-rich plasma is a dual-treatment yielding excellent results.

Preparing for Microneedling

Depending on the extent and severity of your skin condition, you may benefit from multiple treatments spaced in four-week intervals. Before each session, make sure that the area to be treated is clean and free of make-up or creams. If you have low pain tolerance, then consider asking for a topical numbing agent to minimize discomfort.

Microneedling Recovery

Downtime is virtually non-existent. Immediately following a treatment session, your skin may appear pink to moderately red. For the first four days, only a mineral-based foundation should be used to minimize bacteria build-up.
