What Is Kybella? Should I Believe The Hype?
Kybella has taken the beauty and cosmetic industry by storm, promising a solution to a common concern – the dreaded “double chin.” But does it live up to the hype? Let’s delve into the world of Kybella, understand its mechanism, explore its benefits, and address some common questions surrounding this revolutionary treatment.
Understanding Kybella: Say Goodbye to the Double Chin
Kybella is an FDA-approved treatment explicitly designed to tackle submental fullness, colloquially known as the “double chin.” What sets Kybella apart is its active ingredient, deoxycholic acid. This naturally occurring substance is present in our bodies and aids in the breakdown of dietary fat.
In Kybella, the synthesized version of deoxycholic acid is used to target and dissolve fat cells in the injected area. Once these fat cells are eliminated, they are permanently gone, ensuring long-lasting results.
The Journey: What to Expect with Kybella
Undergoing Kybella treatment typically involves 2-4 sessions spaced around six weeks apart. Although each individual may require a different number of sessions, this range often produces the desired result.
The process is typically quite comfortable because we apply lidocaine to the treatment area before your Kybella injections. That said, minor discomfort, redness, and swelling are common side effects after treatment and may continue for anywhere between 5 and 14 days.
Your Post-Treatment Queries Answered
After experiencing the wonders of Kybella, questions naturally arise about the next steps and aftercare. Here are answers to some of the most common queries:
Makeup Application
You won’t want to use makeup until 24 hours after treatment. This goes for sunscreens and moisturizers as well.
Duration of Lidocaine and Discomfort
The lidocaine we use for your comfort usually wears off within 30 minutes to an hour after the procedure. After that, you might experience mild discomfort for 1-2 days. You can take Tylenol every 4-6 hours to alleviate pain.
We recommend temporarily avoiding blood-thinning medications like aspirin and NSAIDs.
Resuming Exercise
You can resume your regular exercise routine 24 hours after the procedure.
Addressing Asymmetry
Mild asymmetry is expected immediately after the treatment due to swelling. However, as swelling subsides, asymmetry usually fades. If the asymmetry persists, adjustments can be made during your 2-week follow-up appointment.
Longevity of Results
The results of Kybella will last a lifetime. It permanently eliminates the fat cells in the treatment area. They won’t return.
