Medical Minute: Breast Reconstruction with Dr. Humphrey

A lot of women, after going through mastectomies, or breast cancer, they have different feelings about reconstruction. Some women don’t care for it; other women tell me that they don’t feel complete without it. Often times what will happen is when woman are diagnosed they’ll be offered a consultation with me, it’s a part of their overall care treatment plan by their general surgeon or their oncologist. The reconstructive techniques involve at least two surgeries. The first one can be combined with the first operation where the general surgeon removes the breast and then the second stage is usually the completion, and that reconstructs the breast mound. We’re very excited to bring state-of-the-art three-dimensional software and hardware platform where we can image the ladies’ chest and breast so that we can more objectively guide our reconstruction and try to meet their goals.
